Her girls took her out for TACOS TACOS TACOS!

Day 680

Living with Anel

--

Wednesday 3/8/23

Anel is doing well. It’s her birthday.

Last year she told me she would be 39 for the next ten years. I asked her this morning if she was 39 for the next 9. With a smile and a twinkle in her eye, she informed me that I wasn’t just a silly boy; I was her silly boy, and it was still 10 years. Ahh, okay Babygirl, silly me.

Her cognitive ability is returning to where it was before the last stroke. Sometimes she’ll get confused or can’t find a word, but she’s aware of the confusion, which seems to happen less.

Tomorrow will be her last dose of anti-seizure meds from stroke three. We all noticed the change when she got off of them last summer. I know she’ll feel much better when it’s all out of her system in a few weeks. If you’re unfamiliar with those meds, they shut down brain activity. Fully engaging in therapy isn’t possible when she’s on them.

In our monthly meetings at Pate, we’ve been discussing moving her to a new program. We all believe a fresh set of eyes and a change in the schedule would benefit Anel. She’s been there for 16 months. March 24th will be her last day. We’re grateful for the people at Pate.

I’ve visited probably every program in the area and have chosen Baylor in Frisco. It’s also a day neuro program. She’ll continue with the same schedule and focuses on occupational, physical, and speech therapies. Her schedule will remain the same, Monday through Friday, from 9 to 3. She starts on March 27th. She’s excited.

Thank you for your love and support.
