Living with Anel

Monday 4/3/23

Anel is doing well. In fact, she was a bit spicy this morning.

I pick her clothes out for her, and I usually hear, “I love it!” Which furthers my ego that I’m awesome and know precisely what she wants. When I picked out her shirt this morning, she said, “No,” which made me smile. “Really, Babygirl, you don’t like this shirt? It’s going to be in the 90s today.” “The shirt is ok, but not today.” That whole conversation is a big deal if you haven’t been around Anel recently. More than one-word answers and thought progression. Very cool. Six shirts later, she found one that she liked. We also went through two pairs of shoes.

Her last day at Pate was Friday, 3/24. We are now at Baylor Rehab. Last week was her first week. Here’s a timeline for all the facilities and dates. It’s also an outpatient day neuro program, Monday — Friday, 9–3. It’s a lateral move. We’re all appreciative of Pate. It was simply time for fresh eyes.

She loves Baylor, and I’m a fan as well. She doesn’t want to be in a wheelchair anymore. She wants to walk 90% of the time when at the house. She’s doing well taking steps, and I balance her.

I’m still amazed by her positive attitude and strength to push on. She doesn’t complain or get down about anything. How is that even possible? This girl will walk. She’s coming back!

Much love and appreciation, friends.

My wonderful wife of 20 years had her second stroke on 4/27/21. She’s supported by many loving friends and family. This site is to share the updates. — Ken
